Alex and Monica Kiamba have spent much of their ministry lives helping young men and women take their next step with Christ. Whether among high school students, university students, staff trainees, or young professionals, their calling has been consistent: to raise disciples who make disciples.
Alex served extensively in the Machakos region, ministering among students at Machakos Boys High School and later at Machakos University. Over time he also provided leadership for the wider Lower Eastern staff team as the ministry expanded across the region.
1. Developing the Next Generation
The Kiambas’ story is closely connected to the growth of the Machakos ministry. When Chris and Anne Amulo assumed leadership of the work in Machakos, they invited Alex Kiamba, Victor Kilwake, and Naftali Oswago into staff training to help strengthen and expand the ministry.
- Alex embraced the challenge of investing in younger leaders. Over the years he trained and mentored numerous staff trainees and emerging laborers, helping them discover God’s calling and develop ministry skills. Since 2019 he has provided leadership for The Navigators Kenya’s Leader Development initiative, focusing on identifying, equipping, and releasing younger leaders into greater responsibility.
- Monica’s ministry has complemented this work through intentional discipleship among women. She has walked alongside women in STEM and DMLT training, supporting both trainees and women trainers. Her passion for helping women grow in Christ has been expressed through personal discipleship, mentoring relationships, and practical encouragement during seasons of ministry preparation.
She also has a special burden for children, investing in Bible clubs and helping young people encounter God’s Word from an early age.
2. Walking Through Life Together
One of the distinctive features of Alex and Monica’s ministry has been their long-term commitment to people. They have accompanied many young men and women through major life transitions:
Transition
---
Campus to Career
Courtship to Marriage
Parenthood to Leadership
Their home and ministry have provided stability, counsel, and encouragement for many who continue serving Christ in different spheres of society today.
From September 2015 until April 2023, Alex served as National Student Ministry Leader, helping guide student ministry efforts across Kenya and strengthening teams serving on campuses throughout the country.
3. Called to Lead the Nation
As the ministry continued to grow, the need for national leadership succession became increasingly important. Following a season of discernment and preparation, Alex and Monica were commissioned as Country Leaders of The Navigators Kenya on 7 October 2023.
They assumed leadership following Chris and Anne Amulo’s transition to the Africa Regional Team, carrying forward a ministry vision deeply centered on:
- Prayer: Continual grounding and looking to God.
- Disciplemaking: Intentional, life-on-life transformation.
- Raising Laborers: Equipping workers ready for the harvest.
Today, Alex and Monica continue investing in leaders across Kenya, trusting God to establish multiplying generations of disciples who will make Christ known in their communities and beyond.
